Academic Integrity Valencia Community College Student Survey

While I am not a student at Valencia Community College, nor the sponsoring school Rutgers, I do know something about integrity. Just maybe not academic integrity. Because academic integrity is seemingly based on sending out your survey requests using a fake email address for a domain you don't own. But hey, I don't have a PHD, so maybe I don't know what Dr. Don McCabe is hoping for in his survey.

I filled it out, and it must be broken, because at the end I did not get a little graphic telling me who I was based on my academic integrity. I was really hoping to get the Jeff Spicoli award or at least the Pedro award. But maybe it was just broken when i tried it - feel free to give it a try at (http://integrity.rutgers.edu/valencia.asp .

Dear Student,
You have been invited to participate in a survey regarding academic
integrity at Valencia Community College. The

survey will take about 15 minutes to complete and can be accessed at:
http://integrity.rutgers.edu/valencia.asp
All responses will be submitted directly to a database managed by Dr.
Don McCabe of Rutgers University (please

see his invitation below). Individual responses are completely
anonymous, and Valencia will receive only group

reports.

Thank you for your time and I encourage you to spend a few moments to
voice your beliefs on this important matter.

If you have questions, please contact Dr. McCabe directly.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kris Dougherty
Biology Professor, Valencia Community College

Dear Valencia Student:

Valencia Community College is participating in a nationwide survey of
college students on the subject of academic

dishonesty. This study is designed to get student opinions about the
current state of academic integrity at our

nation?s colleges and universities. The survey is similar in design to
studies I have conducted over the last fourteen

years at more than 125 colleges and 60 high schools, involving more
than 100,000 students.

You have been selected to participate in this survey, which takes about
15 minutes to complete. It asks how you

view this important issue and how you feel your classmates do. My hope
is that you will go to the link listed below

and complete this survey. No one other than me will have access to
your individual data so I can assure you your

responses will be treated confidentially.

Your participation is entirely voluntary. However, I have only been
able to invite a limited number of students to

participate in this project and I truly hope you will consider taking
the time to complete the survey. If you have any

questions about any aspect of this study, you may write me at the above
address, email me at

dmccabe@andromeda.rutgers.edu or call me at 973-353-XXXX.

The survey can be found at:
http://integrity.rutgers.edu/valencia.asp
and is self-explanatory.
YOUR COOPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Very truly yours,
Donald L. McCabe
Professor of Management

One little note, these minor Ivy League schools must be tough, the survey was neither self-explanatory and it took me longer than 15 minutes. Hell, 15 minutes didn't even give me enough time to discuss my skills in reporting other students for cheating.
