Privacy On The Bush Campaign Trail

I was just sent this email. Seems the local head of the "grass roots" movement for GWB 04 campaign is new to email. Dan Halm the Northern Ohio & Cuyahoga County Field Director for Bush/Cheney '04 decided BCC or individual emails were just not good enough. Instead he put the email list in the two field - which of course exposes it to everyone it is sent to, or in my case later forwarded to...

This is past a rookie mistake. This would loosely violate the privacy policy on http://www.georgebush.com/PrivacyPolicy.aspx, since the not everyone of the recipients on that list are "Republican organizations committed to re-electing President Bush".

Dan never sent an apology followup. And that seems to be the only email Dan has sent. One would hope someone stopped him from sending more.

I am writing to let you know that our grassroots effort for President Bush in Cuyahoga County is in full swing! As a Team Leader for the Republican National Committee, you know more than anybody the importance of winning Ohio. President Bush’s success depends on having a strong grassroots presence in key counties like Cuyahoga and I hope you will join us in reaching out to Cuyahoga County voters who will make the difference in this election.

I would like to bring you up to speed on our grassroots activities and ask for your help in making these efforts successful:

* Door-to-Door: This Saturday, August 14th and next Saturday, August 21st

Volunteers supporting the President are going door-to-door in your neighborhood to make sure that all of President

Bush's supporters in Cuyahoga County are registered to vote. There are several door-to-door shifts available depending on your schedule.

Help support President Bush by contacting your local city captain and finding out how your community is answering the call to register voters

in your neighborhood. If you have questions, or are uncertain who your city captain is, please contact Lane Raffray at (440) 717-9642
